December Wrap Up

I didn't read as much in December. I didn't read for several days. I've abandoned several books and DNF'ed 2 books. The books I abandoned I have the intention to try again. The downside of borrowing books from the Library is that sometimes you have an avalanche of books borrowed to you from your holds folder. And when this happens I get overwhelmed. That's why a monthly TBR doesn't work for me.

My total books read this month was 17 books - 2 DNF = 15 books

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

01- The Lemon Sisters - Jill Shalvis
02- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows
03- How to Kiss an Undead Bride - Hailey Edwards

05- Would Like to Meet - Rachel Winters
06- Coco & Olive: The Color of Love - Michelle Madrid-Branch with Eviana Tiblet Branch & Erin          Darling(Ilustrador)

November Wrap Up (2019)

I started the reading month a little late in November. I just couldn't find something interesting to read or listen to. I wish I could set up a TBR for the month and stick to it but I just can't do it. I have to be in the mood to read certain books and as I get most of my books from the Library I'll read what's available to me from my holds and sometimes a book that is available to borrow and that I saw on a recommendation video on YouTube.

I've been able to read great books from my unplanned TBR. A lot of 5 and 4 stars books and only one 3 stars this month. That is good. But by the middle of the month, I was thinking that I would have very feel books to show here in the wrap-up.

I finally read the first book on The Wheel of Time Series: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan and it was amazing. I had some problems with some of the characters like The Wisdom Nynaeve al'Meara- She wasn't wise, she was just so arrogant and she really thought the others were not good enough and she knew better than all of them and Egwene al'Vere I thought she was very immature and selfish. I know they will grow in their roles because they both will be Aes Sedai. So, I hope they will grow and change. I have no strong feelings about the other characters, yet.

I was planning to read one book a month of The Wheel of Time Series but I depend on the availability of the books in my Library.

Here are the books I've read in November:
Total: 18 Books

01 - An Absolute Remarkable Thing - Hank Green

06 - Slaying Monsters for The Feeble - Annette Marie
07 - Howl's Moving Castle - Diana Wynn Jones
08 - Deadline - Sandra Brown

⭐⭐⭐⭐

01 - Selkies are a Girl's Best Friend - Molly Harper
02 - Archenemies - Marissa Meyer
03 - Stormwalker - Allyson James
04 - Not Quite Over You - Susan Mallery
05 - Firewalker - Allyson James
06 - Miranda's Big Mistake - Jill Mansell
07 - Norse Mythology - Neil Gaiman
08 - Peace, Blood & Understanding - Molly Harper

October Wrap Up

October brought some reading slumps. I started and abandoned several books. Nothing seemed to catch my attention and I know the problem was my mood. I'm a mood reader. At the beginning of October, I was flooded with books from the library. A lot of books I had on hold became available. It was overwhelming and I wasn't in the mood for any of those books and to top it off, my anxiety kicked in and on behalf sanity, I returned some books to the library and put them on hold again.

I suffer from anxiety and I don't like taking medication for that. It makes me anxious. So I try my best to avoid, as much as possible, my anxiety triggers. Most of the time I'm successful.

Anyhow, even with all the problems and little setbacks, I was able to read 17 books and 1 unpublished short story. I usually listen to Audiobooks. This way I can get through my work and still enjoy my books. I get my books from the library through Libby(app) and Hoopla(app). They're both great but Libby is my favorite. I also have Kindle Unlimited. That's how I get my books.

Anyway, Like I said before, I've read 17 books and 1 unpublished short story:

01- The Trouble with Vampires - Lynsay Sands
02- The Alchemist and an Amaretto - Annette Marie
03- A Little Warped - Rob Jacobsen & Annette Marie ( Unpublished Short Story)

05- Immortal Born - Lynsay Sands
06- The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris - Jenny Colgan
07- A Witch Called Red - Sami Valentine
08- Death of Darkness - Dianne Duval

⭐⭐⭐⭐

01- The Bookish Life of Nina Hill - Abbi Waxman
02- Well Met - Jen DeLuca

A Witch Called Red by Sami Valentine

This ARC was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

This book caught my attention right from the first page. The narrative is fluid and enticing. Sami Valentine's writing style is great. Sometimes it's hard for me to express how good a book is and I end up not saying anything but, in mind, there are so many expressions and raves for a book.

It always comes to my mind those old cartoons I used to watch on TV. Where to entice your prey one character has a potion or something very aromatic and you can see the fumes slowly approaching the target and a hand forms at the end of those fumes mesmerizing the target and Bam! You're caught. That's my visual image of a great book. It catches you when you start reading and it makes it difficult to put down for mundane life. And you do put down, because of life, you can barely wait to go to your reading. That's what A Witch Called Red was to me.

I went on a trip to this world created by Sami Valentine and it was really hard to get off the bus. And this book took me to so many twists and turns that I had to stop for 5 minutes sometimes and breathe because of my anxiety. I didn't want the book to finish but I did want to know what happened. So I got to the end. And it was great.

There was some development in the characters and I feel that they will change and grow and that's all I expect from my characters. Growth and development. Vic was my favorite. I love Red, too. Don't get me wrong but Vic is special. His mullet and his redneck ways are adorable. I liked Novak better than Lucas. Red and Vic were flawed and they felt real.

The plot was very interesting. I found out the culprit before the main character but I wasn't so sure about it. The most surprising thing was the motivation behind the plot to take over the city. The villain wasn't bad just because he was the villain. His plans had a strong motivation that for a minute makes us sympathize with him a little bit or, at least understand his motivations, even though this didn't excuse what was done to achieve such goals.

The conclusion left us with certainty that more was to come to our "heroes" and I'm excited to read the next book in the series.

September Wrap Up

The Month of September started great for books but then I fell into a huge reading slump. I was overwhelmed by the number of books that were available to me through the library and my TBR got really crazy. It wasn't much the amount but the short time allotted to read such books. They were humongous books. Mostly high fantasy. For my sanity, I ended up returning some of them( and putting them on hold again). Another thing that overwhelms me is the fact that I know how many people are waiting for the same book. All of this makes my anxiety flare up and it was hard to go back to books. When I get to a book slump I usually try and read a book on a lighter subject, you know, not many triggers and all that stuff. Romance is a good bet but, lately, romance has irked me because the female MC's are such idiots. I can believe the authors still write about women like that. According to some authors out there women can be smart, independent, have a good job but the minute they meet a hot piece of man-candy they become a babbling a useless mound of goo with no coherent thoughts in their heads.
So I started reading and put aside so many books I can't even remember how many. And suddenly the month ended with me having started a good book. Finally! But as I didn't finish in September it will be rolled over to October Reads.
These are the books I've read this month of September:

Total = 17 Books (16 Books and 1 Short Story(Unpublished)).

August Wrap up

This month I had a bit of a book slump but I still was able to read 18 books. Initially, I haven't rated any book less than 3 stars but I got thinking about two of the books I've read and I decided to lower the rating in those two books because of the fat-shaming going on. It really bothered me. The author, Robert J. Crane, has a really engaging way of writing. He's a very good story-teller but his Main Character bulling of fat people really left me unsettled. I did not like that. The other thing I didn't like was how quick his Main Character started insulting people that did nothing to her. I understand that sometimes you can dislike a person at first sight or contact but it does not give anybody a license to offend people willy nilly. Especially somebody that never did anything to harm you. That's not OK.

The other books that I've read were great and some were flawless in my opinion. I also discovered a new favorite author: Jackie May I'm looking at you!
